O's offensive numbers against LHP; Guthrie to the Rockies' bullpen (with game update)

In the first four games of their current road trip, the Orioles have scored just nine runs on 17 hits, with a team average of just .152 in Atlanta and New York. The Orioles have come up with, in order, six, six, four and one hits in the four games of the trip, and they have not homered in four straight for the first time all year. But now for the good news. The Orioles hit better against left-handed pitchers, and they face one tonight in Johan Santana. Here are some of the O's batting averages and OPS numbers against lefties: * J.J. As a team, the Orioles bat .239 with a slugging percentage of .411 against right-handed pitching and .277/.449 against the lefties. After coming up with just five hits in the past two games combined, the Orioles will look to get some offense going tonight. Maybe facing a lefty will be a positive for them, even one that is the quality of Santana. On a former Oriole note, the Colorado Rockies are moving Jeremy Guthrie to the bullpen. He was their opening day starter, but now is 3-6 with a 7.02 ERA over 11 starts. He has a home ERA of 9.53. Late last year, the Rockies moved Jason Hammel to the 'pen, and he got his act together, as the Orioles now know. Maybe it will work for Guthrie, who has been the subject of trade rumors this week. This story in The Denver Post says Colorado will, for now, go to a four-man rotation, and Guthrie is the odd man out. No runs so far: The Orioles are in a 0-0 game heading to the last of the fourth. They missed a big chance to score in the fourth when Hardy led off with a single and Wieters doubled on a 3-0 pitch. They had runners on second and third with one out, but Reynolds struck out swinging and Pearce struck out looking against Santana. The Orioles are 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position tonight and have not scored over their last 16 innings, dating to Sunday.
