O's will not play error-free ball tonight (Wieters homers for 2-0 lead)

The Orioles are 3-0 this year when they play error-free ball but they won't add to that tonight. Jake Arrieta bounced a pickoff throw past Chris Davis at first base in the first inning for the Orioles' first error of the game and 17th on the season. Arrieta was able to strand a runner at second base in the first. Tonight's game is scoreless heading to the third inning with Arrieta matching up against Jered Weaver. Nick Johnson grounded out his first time up to go 0-for-21 on the year. The Orioles, who tied a season high with a three-error game Friday night at Anaheim, have now made at least one error in 11 of their last 12 games. They have made 13 errors in the nine games of this road trip. The Orioles began play tonight with an 8-6 record and are 5-3 on the 10-game road trip that ends Sunday afternoon. They are 6-2 this year in games decided by two runs or less. Adam Jones' next RBI will be the 300th of his career. Arrieta began tonight with a batting average against of .194 to rank fifth in the American Legaue. He walked just four with 16 strikeouts over his first three starts, covering 20 1/3 innings. Orioles pitchers struck out 26 batters over 17 innings the last two games and have 51 strikeouts over the last five games. The Orioles are 7-1-1 in their last nine series dating to last Sept. 12 and are 19-12 in 31 games during that stretch. Wieters for the lead: The Orioles took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth tonight on a Matt Wieters' two-run homer. It was his fifth of the year. After Weaver retired the first 12 to face him, Adam Jones led off the inning with an infield single. Then Wieters went ahead 3-0 in the count and got the green light. He ripped a two-run homer to right to snap the 0-0 tie.
