Orioles activate Teagarden from DL, select contract of Socolovich

The Orioles today announced that they have activated catcher Taylor Teagarden from the 60-day disabled list and selected the contract of right-hander Miguel Socolovich from Triple-A Norfolk. To make room on the 25 and 40-man rosters, catcher Ronny Paulino has been outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk and left-hander Dana Eveland has been designated for assignment. Teagarden was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained back on April 4 and transferred to the 60-day DL on May 9. He batted .250/.424/.375 in nine rehab games with Gulf Coast, Class-A Delmarva and Double-A Bowie (three games each). Teagarden was acquired by the Orioles from Texas on December 1, 2011. He will wear jersey #31. Socolovich (pronounced so-COLE-oh-vitch) went 3-0 with a 1.77 ERA (45.2IP, 9ER), 11 walks and 50 strikeouts in 24 games with Triple-A Norfolk this season. He tossed a perfect inning and struck out two in the Triple-A All-Star Game on July 11. Socolovich was signed as a minor league free agent on November 22, 2011. He will wear jersey #58. Paulino batted .254/.266/.302 in 20 games with the Orioles. Eveland went 0-1 with a 4.73 ERA (32.1IP, 17ER) in 14 games (two starts) with Baltimore.
