Orioles and Blue Jays Game 1 lineups (updated)

The Orioles are sending rookies Keegan Akin and Dean Kremer to the mound for today's doubleheader against the Blue Jays at Camden Yards. Kremer is starting the opener.

Kremer has been recalled from Triple-A Norfolk as the 29th man, rejoining a team he hasn't pitched for since June 24 in Buffalo, where he allowed six runs and walked five batters in one-third of an inning.

In his previous start, he held the Jays to two runs and three hits with six strikeouts in six innings at Camden Yards. Marcus Semien and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit home runs. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit a grand slam in the rematch.

Kremer started for the Tides on Sept. 3 and tossed five scoreless innings with two hits allowed, no walks and five strikeouts. He's 0-7 with a 7.25 ERA and 1.611 WHIP in 12 starts with the Orioles.

Akin has two victories and a no-decision in his last three starts and the Orioles have won all three games. He lasted only four innings Sunday in New York, allowing four runs and three hits.

Akin held the Jays to one run and two hits with five strikeouts in five innings in his previous start. He also started in Toronto on June 26 and surrendered six runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Guerrero and Teoscar Hernández homered off Akin in the first matchup and Danny Jansen homered last month.

Cedric Mullins has homered in four of his last six games and is two shy of 30. He also needs two more stolen bases to become the first 30/30 player in franchise history.

His 28/28 season is the first in franchise history.

He'll have to do most of his work in the nightcap. He's on the bench this afternoon.

Austin Hays is leading off. Ryan McKenna is in center field.

Ramón Urías is playing second base. Richie Martin is the shortstop, with Jorge Mateo on the bench.

Hays will try to extend his 16-game hitting streak.

The Orioles are 8-8 following a 19-game losing streak. They have five wins this month, one more than their August total.

Left-hander Hyun Jin Ryu is 13-8 with a 3.77 ERA and 1.146 WHIP in 27 starts. He's averaging 1.9 walks per nine innings.

Ryu has made four starts against the Orioles this season and gone 3-1 with a 3.33 ERA and 1.068 WHIP in 24 1/3 innings. He's posted a 4.46 ERA and 1.265 WHIP in 13 home starts and a 3.09 ERA and 1.030 WHIP in 14 starts on the road.

Right-hander Ross Stripling has a 4.34 ERA and 1.221 WHIP in 20 appearances (19 starts) this summer. He faced the Orioles on June 27 and allowed two runs and six hits in five innings.

Ryan Mountcastle homered in the first inning.

The Jays had won eight in a row and 11 of 12 before last night's 6-3 loss.
