The Orioles improved to 30-15 in day games with their 4-1 victory in the opener. They can move a season-high 24 games over .500 with a win tonight.
Troy Patton hasn't allowed a run in his last 20 games and 15 1/3 innings.
Steve Johnson is 4-0 overall and 3-0 with a 2.12 ERA in three career starts.
"He was good," Showalter said. "He wasn't really wild. Just some deep counts and was pitching off the edges. But he was instrumental in us winning. He had four days off. He was really in a good position to pitch well if you look at leading up to this. We thought he was the right guy and he repaid our trust.
"He's got a good presence. He presents a calm front. He pitches with a lot of confidence."
Adam Jones has hit safely in 18 of 22 games this month. He's scored 101 runs this season, the first Oriole to reach triple digits since Brian Roberts (110) in 2009. He's the first Orioles outfielder with 100 or more runs since Nick Markakis (106) in 2008.
"Adam relishes competition, period," Showalter said. "He's obviously had a heck of a year. He's turning into quite a player."
Asked about Tommy Hunter, who allowed one run after retiring the first five batters, Showalter said, "Tommy threw the ball well again. He can be a help for us down the stretch. What, did they hit a swinging bunt and a jam shot? It was unfortunate."
