Orioles announce baseball operations staff

The Orioles today announced numerous promotions within, and the re-structuring of, the Baseball Operations department. Orioles Hall of Famer Brady Anderson has been named Special Assistant to the Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations. He will assist Dan Duquette with player relations and player development and oversee conditioning throughout the organization. A veteran of 15 major league seasons, 14 with Baltimore, Anderson ranks among the top 10 in Orioles career batting leaders in 12 categories. He also holds the club single-season records for total bases, home runs, extra-base hits and hit by pitch. Anderson was inducted into the Orioles Hall of Fame in 2004. John Stockstill, previously the Orioles' Director of Player Development, has been promoted to Director of Player Personnel. In his new role, Stockstill will oversee the day-to-day operation of the minor league system as well as help to procure talent for the organization at the Major League level. Stockstill is in his seventh year with the Orioles. Tripp Norton has been promoted to Director of Baseball Administration. Norton will negotiate major league player contracts and oversee budgeting for the entire baseball operation in this role. Norton is in his 15th season with the organization. He started with the Orioles in 1998 as Player Development Administrator and spent the last 12 years as Assistant Director of Player Development. The Orioles also promoted Ned Rice to Assistant Director of Major League Operations. Rice will work with closely with Norton on contracts, waivers and rules as a liaison with the Labor Department of Major League Baseball. He initially joined the Orioles in 2005 as a public relations intern. Mike Snyder has been promoted to Assistant Director of Scouting and Player Development. Snyder will work closely with John Stockstill on player personnel and oversee administration of the club's scouting operations. He originally started with the organization as a baseball operations intern in 2009. Rick Peterson has been appointed the Orioles' Director of Pitching Development. In his new role Peterson will oversee the organization's pitching development program. Peterson has 12 years of experience as a major league pitching coach, most recently with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2010. He was also the pitching coach for the Oakland A's (1998-2003) and New York Mets (2004-08), guiding staffs which finished in the top three in the American League in ERA every season from 1999-2003, including league-leading ERAs in 2002 and 2003. In addition to his on-field experience, Peterson is co-founder of a company that offers biomechanical analysis and developmental programs for pitchers that improve efficiency and minimize the risk of injury. Mike Boulanger has been added as the organization's Minor League Hitting Coordinator. Boulanger will oversee the developmental programs of the organization's hitters. He joins the Orioles from the Texas Rangers organization, where he served as Minor League Hitting Coordinator for the last five seasons. Before joining the Rangers, Boulanger spent three seasons as a manager in the Boston farm system and the five years prior to that as a manager in Minnesota's organization. He compiled a career 497-496 record in his nine seasons as a minor league skipper, guiding three teams to the postseason. Sarah Gelles has been added to the Baseball Operations staff as Baseball Analytics Coordinator and Ben Werthan has joined the club as Advance Scouting Coordinator. Both were interns in the Orioles' Baseball Operations department in 2011. The club previously announced the additions of Lee Thomas as Special Assistant to the Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations, Fred Ferreira as Executive Director of International Recruiting, Ray Poitevint as Executive Director of International Baseball, Gary Rajsich as Director of Scouting, and Danny Haas as National Crosschecker.
