Lefty relief pitcher Cole McCurry is joining the Triple-A Norfolk Tides after pitching with great stats this year for Double-A Bowie.
The 25-year-old McCurry was a 43rd-round draft pick in 2007. This season for the Baysox, he went 4-0 with an ERA of 0.80. Over 33 2/3 he allowed just 18 hits and three earned runs. He walked 14, fanned 44 and had an opponent batting average against of just .155.
McCurry actually was even better versus left-handed hitters. They are just 2-for-35 (.057) against him this year with 20 strikeouts.
When pitching with runners in scoring position for Bowie, the average against McCurry was just .094 at 3-for-32.
Norfolk will actually be McCurry's third team this year. His first outing of the year was a scoreless inning with Frederick on April 10.
Here is a story I wrote about McCurry in mid-May.
