After going a substantial length of time without opening their season in Boston, the Orioles suddenly could be making a habit of it.
The 2021 schedule was released today and the Orioles again will play the Red Sox in their first game on Thursday, April 1. The home opener is a week later, also against the Red Sox, on April 8.
Until this year, the Orioles hadn't opened in Boston since 1966. The truncated 2020 season begins on July 24.
The Orioles won't play at Camden Yards next season until they've completed a six-game road trip that includes three against the Yankees. The initial homestand also includes four games versus the Mariners.
Only regional travel is allowed this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, and in 2021 the Orioles will again stick to National League East opponents when it comes to interleague play.
The Mets come to Baltimore on June 8-9, the Nationals on July 23-25, the Marlins on July 27-28 and the Braves on Aug. 20-22.
Meanwhile, the Orioles are in Miami on April 20-21, New York on May on 11-12, D.C. on May 21-23 and Philadelphia on Sept. 20-22.
The home schedule also consists of five games played on holidays: Mother's Day (on May 9 versus the Red Sox), Memorial Day (on May 31 versus the Twins), Juneteenth (on June 19 versus the Blue Jays), Father's Day (on June 20 versus the Blue Jays) and Labor Day (on Sept. 6 versus the Royals).
The Orioles play 17 home games in September for their busiest month at Camden Yards. They close out the regular season with three games in Toronto (on Oct. 1-3), as they do in 2020.
The All-Star break is July 12-15, followed by trips to Kansas City and St. Petersburg, Fla.
Baseball won't hold its All-Star festivities this summer. Next year's event is in Atlanta.
The Orioles will make more information available regarding ticket sales for the 2021 season at a later time.
