The Orioles today announced that they have claimed infielder Andy Wilkins off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers and designated left-hander Cesar Cabral for assignment.
Wilkins, 26, has batted .251/.315/.447 (109-434) with 18 home runs and 79 RBI between Triple-A Oklahoma City (105 games) and Triple-A Buffalo (21 games) this season, including a .284/.329/.447 (40-141) slash line against left-handed pitchers. Originally selected by the Chicago White Sox in the fifth round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft, he has played in 17 career Major League games, all in 2014 with the White Sox. In 681 career minor league games over six seasons, Wilkins has hit .272/.343/.474 with 111 home runs and 441 RBI. He has been optioned to Triple-A Norfolk.
Cabral, 26, went 3-1 with a 4.50 ERA (44.0IP, 22ER) in 47 games between Triple-A Norfolk (45 games) and Double-A Bowie (two games) this season. Cabral pitched in two games with the Orioles this season and has posted a 6.35 ERA (5.2IP, 4ER) in 14 career Major League games.
