The Orioles announced today that they claimed infielder Andy Wilkins off waivers from the Dodgers and designated left-hander Cesar Cabral for assignment.
The 40-man roster was full. Cabral's removal creates a spot for Wilkins, a left-handed hitter who has been optioned to Triple-A Norfolk.
Wilkins, 26, has batted .251/.315/.447 (109-434) with 18 home runs and 79 RBIs between Triple-A Oklahoma City (105 games) and Triple-A Buffalo (21 games) this season, including a .284/.329/.447 (40-141) slash line against left-handed pitchers.
Originally selected by the Chicago White Sox in the fifth round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft, Wilkins has played in 17 career major league games - all of them coming in 2014 with Chicago. He went 6-for-43 with two doubles, two RBIs and 22 strikeouts.
In 681 career minor league games, Wilkins has batted .272/.343/.474 with 111 home runs and 441 RBIs over six seasons.
The Dodgers purchased Wilkins' contract from the Blue Jays in May.
Cabral, 26, went 3-1 with a 4.50 ERA in 47 games between Norfolk (45 games) and Double-A Bowie (two games) this season. Cabral pitched in two games with the Orioles this season and has posted a 6.35 ERA in 14 games in the majors.
