"Orioles Classics" #TBT: A perfect time for pie

We all know that the best thing you can do for yourself after a heavy meal is to walk it off. So on this biggest feast day of the year, and in the days to follow, MASN delivers extra helpings of walk-off Orioles wins from marathon matches of seasons past.

On the menu are tasty victories over the Yankees, Nationals, Athletics and Diamondbacks, and a heaping portion of wins against the Blue Jays. We decided to do dessert first this time, serving up some playoff pie this morning. Hope you're hungry.

Thursday, Nov. 22, 10:30 a.m. - After you've got the bird in the oven and before it's time to switch it out for the green bean casserole, take a break and settle in for some pie. Not for you to eat, mind you (that comes later on). The kind that Adam Jones likes to moosh into the faces of teammates being interviewed after a win. After the O's clinched the American League East on Sept. 16, 2014 with an 8-2 win over the Blue Jays, the veteran star pied not only fellow ballplayers but fans who stuck around to bask in the glow of the team's first division title since 1997. Highlights of the game itself included homers from Steve Pearce and Jimmy Paredes and a bases-clearing triple from Alejandro De Aza.

Thursday, Nov. 22, 11:30 p.m. - The guests have gone home, and you've had quite enough football, thank you. But you're still wide awake after that tryptophan-induced two-hour nap this afternoon. We've got you covered with a comeback, extra-inning walk-off win. It was May 9, 2017, and the O's went toe-to-toe with Nationals ace Max Scherzer. With the Birds trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the ninth, Jonathan Schoop doubled off reliever Enny Romero to drive in Mark Trumbo. Craig Gentry, pinch-running for Schoop, scored on J.J. Hardy's single up the middle to tie the score. Trumbo drove in Jones in the 12th to send the Nats back down Interstate 95 stinging.

Friday, Nov. 23, noon - We haven't done a scientific poll, but as much fun as it is seeing Baltimore beat Washington (see above), most O's fans probably relish even more a win over the Evil Empire. The Yankees were in town on Aug. 13, 2014 and appeared to be cruising to victory. Dellin Betances had already pitched a 1-2-3 seventh and had retired Ryan Flaherty in the eighth when Schoop launched one to left-center to tie the game 2-2. Shawn Kelley came on in relief for the Yanks but fared no better, giving up a single and a walk before Jones hit a three-run homer. The O's went on to win 5-3.

Sunday, Nov. 25, 2:30 p.m. - While fighting for an American League wild card berth, the Orioles hosted the Diamondbacks in an interleague contest the Birds would win in a 12th-inning walk-off on Sept. 23, 2016. Solo homers from Pedro Álvarez in the eighth and Matt Wieters in the ninth erased a 2-0 D-backs lead. Trumbo's tater to left sealed the win.

Monday, Nov. 26, 9 a.m. - The O's triumphed over the A's on Aug. 14, 2015 in a 13-inning thriller, sending the home folks home happy once again. The Orioles spotted the Athletics four runs before Jones' three-run shot in the fifth. Bob Melvin's boys knotted the game 6-6 with two runs in the ninth, but Manny Machado's line drive homer to left would win it for the Birds with two outs in the 13th.

Tuesday, Nov. 27, 7 p.m. - Machado became the youngest player in club history to reach the 100-homer mark on Aug. 30, 2016 as the Orioles beat the Blue Jays 5-3. His two-run dinger in the fifth put the O's in front after Pearce tied it with a solo shot. Wieters homered with Schoop aboard in the eighth to provide the winning margin.

Wednesday, Nov. 28, 9 a.m. - The O's registered a 13th-inning walk-off on Sept. 1, 2017. Blue Jays starter Joe Biagini battled Kevin Gausman before five Jays relievers and four from the O's bullpen kept the game scoreless until Schoop's double to right-center drove home Machado. It was the Orioles' eighth win in nine games.
