Orioles dig the long ball (Tillman and attendance updates, O's win 9-1)

The Orioles hit two more home runs in the first inning tonight, giving them a franchise-record 122 at home this season. That's only part of the story. Chris Davis hit a two-run homer to wipe out the Red Sox's 1-0 lead. The Orioles loaded the bases with two outs against Boston starter Aaron Cook, and Ryan Flaherty launched his first career grand slam. Orioles 6, Red Sox 1. Cook threw 30 pitches in the first inning. Alfredo Aceves began warming in the bullpen before Flaherty's blast. Davis has 29 homers this season, perhaps eliminating the debate over whether he's a 4-A player. He's hit three in the last two games. The Orioles have hit nine in their last nine innings. Jim Thome singled against the infield shift, slapping the ball into left field. Mark Reynolds drew his team-leading 72nd walk and Manny Machado singled to left. Up stepped Flaherty, the Rule-5 pick who's starting at second base tonight over Robert Andino and Omar Quintanilla. Out went the ball, over the grounds crew shed in right field. Hopefully, the noise didn't wake Maverick Wieters. The Orioles' previous record for home runs at home in a single season was 121 back in 1996. Brady Anderson hit 50 for the season, Rafael Palmeiro 39, Bobby Bonilla 28, Cal Ripken 26, Chris Hoiles 25, Robert Alomar 22, B.J. Surhoff 21 and Eddie Murray 10. Jeffrey Hammonds just missed double digits with nine. Update: The Orioles scored three runs off Aceves in the fifth inning and lead, 9-1. Meanwhile, the Yankees are beating the Blue Jays, 3-1, in the fifth. Flaherty had 14 RBIs before tonight. He's driven in a career-high five runs, including an RBI double in the fifth. Reynolds, Machado and Flaherty had consecutive doubles. Aceves was removed after Taylor Teagarden's RBI single. Maverick Wieters now regrets taking down Teagarden's poster after an 0-for-2 start. The Orioles run differential is plus-7. Chris Tillman has allowed one unearned run and one hit - Scott Podsednik's bunt single leading off the top of the first - in five innings. He's walked two and struck out three. His pitch count stands at 69, including 44 for strikes. The Orioles had scored 18 straight runs via the long ball before Machado's RBI double. Update II: Tillman has retired 14 in a row and 17 of 18. He's allowed one unearned run and one hit in eight innings, with two walks and four strikeouts. He's thrown 100 pitches, 68 for strikes. Tonight's attendance: 33,518. The Orioles have drawn 2,014,672 in 77 home dates, the first time they've topped 2 million since 2007. Update III: Troy Patton pitched the ninth and completed the Orioles' 9-1 victory over the Red Sox. I guess it didn't hurt the Orioles that Matt Wieters stayed with his wife and new son. The Orioles are 71-0 when leading after the seventh inning and 72-1 when leading after the eighth. This is the Orioles' second one-hitter of the season. Jason Hammel one-hit the Braves on June 16.
