This will be a very quick update on the Orioles' general manager search, since I'm less than an hour away from The start of the Mid-Atlantic Sports Report on MASN.
The Orioles are placing calls to numerous teams seeking permission to interview candidates to replace Andy MacPhail. I've heard that the teams include the Tampa Bay Rays, Chicago White Sox, Minnesota Twins and Philadelphia Phillies.
That's only a partial roll call.
It's fair to speculate that one of the names is Mike Radcliff, the Twins' vice president of player personnel. Phillies assistant GM Scott Proefrock used to work for the Orioles.
Update: Proefrock will be interviewed for the job.
With Jerry Dipoto being named the Los Angeles Angels' GM and Tony LaCava deciding to stay in Toronto, the Orioles' list of candidates who already have interviewed is down to director of player development John Stockstill and Dodgers executive De Jon Watson.
The Dodgers' uncertain ownership situation is being monitored closely in the warehouse. If Ned Colletti wants out, the Orioles would probably reach out to him.
NOTE: The Orioles were shut out in the Silver Slugging Award voting. Tough week for shortstop J.J. Hardy.
Here are the American League winners:
First base: Adrian Gonzalez, Red Sox
Second base: Robinson Cano, Yankees
Third base: Adrian Beltre, Rangers
Shortstop: Asdrubal Cabrera, Indians
Catcher: Alex Avila, Tigers
Outfield: Curtis Granderson, Yankees
Outfield: Jose Bautista, Blue Jays
