Orioles go from Arrieta to awful (O's lose 8-6)

The Orioles began tonight having lost six of their last eight games. And now there's this debacle. The Orioles have committed three errors, and we're only in the fifth inning. Jake Arrieta was charged with six earned runs (seven total) and six hits in 4 1/3 innings. Miguel Gonzalez allowed two inherited runners to score and gave up one of his own in two-thirds of an inning in his major league debut. Catcher Matt Wieters was ejected for arguing balls and strikes - while behind the plate. Blue Jays 8, Orioles 1. Bring on the top of the sixth. Actually, that's not a bad idea. Chris Davis hit a two-run homer as part of a three-run inning. Blue Jays 8, Orioles 4. Maybe these guys are angry. If that's the way they respond, let them stay angry. When have you seen Wieters lose his cool before tonight? Is Arrieta losing his spot in the rotation? In his last two starts, Arrieta has allowed 10 earned runs (11 total) and 14 hits in 10 innings. And let's not forget the seven runs and 10 hits he permitted against the Rays in 3 2/3 innings on May 13. Or the six runs and nine hits against the Rangers in 6 1/3 innings on May 8. Tommy Hunter has been optioned to Triple-A Norfolk. Arrieta will be joining him if he can't figure it out. Obviously, the defense let him down tonight, though one of those errors was charged to Arrieta. And the strike zone clearly was an issue or Wieters wouldn't be taking a shower right now. But Arrieta has to pitch better if he's going to stay in the rotation. Down on the farm, Brian Roberts is 1-for-2 with a walk at Single-A Delmarva. Update: Adam Jones registered the second two-homer game of his career, with his two-run shot in the ninth inning reducing Toronto's lead to 8-6. The tying runs were on base, but Wilson Betemit, who had a tough night in left field, bounced out to end the game. Jones was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, two walks and three runs scored. The Orioles have lost four in a row. They've dropped three straight series. Nothing fun about that.
