Orioles lineup vs. Blue Jays

TORONTO – Kyle Stowers is on the bench after making his major league debut last night and lining a run-scoring double into left field in the seventh inning.

Ryan McKenna is starting in left field as the Orioles continue their series against the Blue Jays. Adley Rutschman is batting cleanup and serving as the designated hitter.

Trey Mancini, who was hit on the hand last night, isn't in the lineup.

Tyler Nevin is the third baseman again. Richie Martin is starting at second base.

Jordan Lyles hasn’t gone past five innings in his last three starts. He has a lifetime 7.79 ERA and 2.077 WHIP in four games against the Blue Jays spanning 17 1/3 innings.

Lyles allowed four runs and nine hits in five innings in his only start in Toronto.

George Springer is 1-for-12 against him.

Lyles’ 81 hits allowed lead the American League and are second behind Washington’s Patrick Corbin (89).

The Orioles’ 21 road losses are tied with the Mariners for most in the American League.

Left-hander Yusei Kikuchi, the opposing pitcher last year for John Means’ no-hitter in Seattle, has posted a 4.44 ERA and 1.479 WHIP in 11 starts. He’s averaging 5.4 walks and 10.0 strikeouts per nine innings.

Kikuchi didn’t make it out of the first inning in his last start in Kansas City, retiring only two batters and allowing three runs and two hits with four walks.

The Mariners declined Kikucki’s $66 million, 4-year option despite his selection to the All-Star Game. He turned down his $13 million option, and the Jays signed him to a three-year, $36 million deal in their first big post-lockout move.

His May 5, 2021 start against the Orioles resulted in three runs allowed with seven strikeouts in seven innings. Pat Valaika hit a home run.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. extended his season-long hitting streak to eight games, going 16-for-32 with four extra-base hits and seven RBIs.

Teoscar Hernández has hits in 15 of his last 16 games, going 23-for-64 (.359) with seven doubles, a triple, a home run and 11 RBIs.

Springer has a 23-game on-base streak that’s the longest active in the majors.

Toronto is a season-high 12 games over .500 after winning 14 of its last 18 games and 19 of 27. The Orioles have lost seven in a row to the Jays by a combined score of 83-29.
