Orioles' lineup vs. Padres in second game of series

Jordan Westburg and Ryan Mountcastle are on the bench this afternoon and Connor Norby is at second base, as the Orioles continue their series against the Padres.

Colton Cowser is in left field and Heston Kjerstad is the designated hitter.

Adley Rutschman is catching. He’s 8-for-64 (.125) this month.

Anthony Santander, who’s in right field, has hit six home runs in his last eight games and leads the club with 29, one more than his 2023 total.

Cowser has a career-high seven-game hitting streak. He’s 10-for-24 during that stretch.

Mountcastle hit .195 against breaking balls in June but is batting .308 in July, per STATS.

Dean Kremer hasn’t gone more than 5 1/3 innings in his four July starts. In his only career start against the Padres, he allowed three runs and five hits over six innings.

Xander Bogaerts is 3-for-11 with a double against Kremer.

The Orioles are 12-17 since June 21 but lead the Yankees by two games in the division.

Former Yankees reliever Michael King is starting for the Padres. He’s posted a 3.28 ERA and 1.186 WHIP in 21 games (20 starts) and is averaging 10.3 strikeouts per nine innings.

King has allowed one earned run in four consecutive outings, five of six and eight of 10. He’s made 13 career appearances against the Orioles, including one start, and allowed eight runs in 27 1/3 innings.

Cedric Mullins is 3-for-10 with two doubles and a home run against King.

The Padres have won six in a row.

They’re batting .263 against off-speed pitches this season, highest in the majors. The Orioles are second at .262.
