Orioles make qualifying offer to OF Nelson Cruz; 3B Manny Machado and C Matt Wieters reinstated from 60-day DL

The Orioles today announced that they have made a Qualifying Offer to outfielder Nelson Cruz. Additionally, the club has reinstated third baseman Manny Machado and catcher Matt Wieters from the 60-day disabled list. Cruz, 34, was named 2014 Most Valuable Oriole by members of the local media after batting .271/.333/.525, leading the major leagues with 40 home runs and posting a career-high 108 RBI. Cruz made the AL All-Star Team for the third time, earning his first fan-elected start as DH. Machado, 22, was transferred to the 60-day disabled list on September 2 with a right knee sprain. He had surgery on August 27 and batted .278/.324/.431 with 12 home runs and 32 RBI in 82 games for the Orioles in 2014. Wieters, 28, was transferred to the 60-day disabled list on August 13 with a right elbow strain and had "Tommy John" surgery on June 17. He batted .308/.339/.500 with five home runs and 18 RBI in 26 games for the Orioles in 2014. The Orioles now have 33 players on their 40-man major league roster.
