Orioles option Britton, DFA Exposito

The Orioles announced a flurry of roster moves before tonight's game in Seattle. They officially recalled former UMBC pitcher Zach Clark from Triple-A Norfolk and optioned left-hander Zach Britton to the Tides. Also, the Orioles purchased catcher Chris Snyder's contract and designated catcher Luis Exposito for assignment to create room on the 40-man roster. And finally, the Orioles reinstated pitcher Steve Johnson from the disabled list and optioned him to Norfolk. Clark, 29, is 1-2 with a 4.56 ERA in five starts with the Tides this season. He went 15-7 with a 2.79 ERA in 28 games (26 starts) with Double-A Bowie and Norfolk in 2012. Clark, who's never been in the majors before tonight, will wear No. 64. Snyder, 32, was acquired from the Angels Sunday night for reliever Rob Delaney. He's a career .225/.329/.385 hitter in nine major league seasons with Arizona (2004-10), Pittsburgh (2010-11) and Houston (2012). He's thrown out 29 percent (141-of-488) of attempted base stealers in his career. Snyder, who batted .342/.388/.684 with seven home runs and 21 RBIs in 21 games for Triple-A Salt Lake this season, will wear No. 48. Britton made his first start with the Orioles last night and allowed six runs and 10 hits in six innings. He was 1-0 with a 1.98 ERA in three starts with the Tides this season. Johnson, 25, was placed on the DL retroactive to March 23, with a right lat strain. He made two injury-rehab starts with Norfolk before being activated tonight. He's listed as Sunday's starter against Syracuse. Exposito, 26, didn't appear in a game for the Orioles after being recalled on Sunday to replace Taylor Teagarden, who went on the disabled list with a dislocated left thumb. He's played in 16 games for the Tides this season, batting .218/.254/.273 in 59 plate appearances. The Orioles optioned Exposito after last night's game. With Britton back in the minors, the Orioles will need a starter for Saturday afternoon's game in Anaheim. Freddy Garcia and Jair Jurrjens are possibilities. Johnson was optioned and can't come up for 10 days unless he's replacing an injured player. Jurrjens is scheduled to start Friday for Norfolk. Garcia, who agreed last night to extend his opt-out date to May 14, is scheduled the start on Saturday.
