Orioles option Chris Lee (plus other notes)

SARASOTA, Fla. - The Orioles have optioned left-hander Chris Lee to Triple-A Norfolk. However, he remains a candidate to be the fifth starter.

Manager Buck Showalter reminded the media that the club has until April 15 to make a decision. The competition will continue at the highest affiliate.

Showalter said Lee needs to work on his secondary pitches and added, "He has a chance to help us this year."

No more cuts will be made today. Showalter said there will be "real movement" on Monday.

Tyler Wilson will start Monday against the Red Sox in Sarasota.

Wade Miley will throw another bullpen session before getting his next start.

Chris Tillman said he's still slated to play catch from 60-90 feet on Sunday to test his right shoulder.

Tillman will throw every other day as long as the discomfort doesn't return. He's going to begin the season on the disabled list and may not pitch before May.

"A lot of words can't really describe all of it," he said. "It was just an amazing experience. The chemistry we had with the team, it felt like we've been together for a long time. The stuff we went through, we started off slow, and for all that stuff we went through it really was passionate in the clubhouse. And a great coaching staff being around (Jim) Leyland.

"I learned a lot out there just being around great All-Stars and future Hall of Famers and being around a good bullpen and a good staff. I even learned a lot from the hitters, being around them. And it was really cool and interesting to be around Buster Posey, who's a three-time World Series champ, and to have him and (Jonathan) Lucroy control the pitching staff was really awesome."

Showalter eased Givens back into camp competition by having him throw an inning yesterday in a minor league game at Twin Lakes Park. Givens said he felt "really good."

"I don't feel like I need to catch up," Givens said. "I think I'm on schedule right now. I'm ready to go.

"It was nice to represent the country and put that uniform on. Now I'm ready to get back and try to win a World Series."
