Orioles rally to tie, McLouth an on-base machine (O's lose 6-5)

The Orioles scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the Blue Jays 5-5 and take Josh Stinson off the hook. It happened in part because Nate McLouth keeps getting on base. McLouth has doubled, walked twice, singled, stolen a base and scored three runs. He's got the only single in this game among the 10 hits. The Orioles didn't have a hit after the first inning until Ryan Flaherty followed Nolan Reimold's one-out walk in the seventh with an RBI double to right-center field. Left-hander Aaron Loup replaced Jays starter Brandon Morrow, and McLouth delivered an RBI single with two outs to reduce Toronto's lead to 5-4. McLouth easily stole second base - making the Orioles 11-of-13 this season - and he raced home on Manny Machado's triple to right-center field. Machado was down to his last strike, but hung tough and came through with a big hit. And yes, another extra-base hit. This is no place for singles today. McLouth has reached base in 12 of his last 18 plate appearances - six hits and six walks. Darren O'Day will pitch the eighth. Manager Buck Showalter hinted earlier today that O'Day might close if the Orioles were in a save situation. Today's attendance: 14,981 Update: We're going to extra innings. Reimold singled to lead off the bottom of the ninth and moved to second base on a nice sacrifice bunt by Flaherty. Taylor Teagarden grounded to short - it looked like a potential game-winning single when he made contact - and McLouth lined to left. Tommy Hunter and O'Day each gave the Orioles 1 1/3 scoreless innings. The Orioles are 1-0 in extra innings this year. They've won 17 in a row during the regular season. Jim Johnson will enter the 10th with two outs and a runner on first base. All three relievers so far have gone 1 1/3 innings. Update II: The Orioles almost won it in the 10th. Machado singled to lead off the inning and Jose Bautista dropped Adam Jones' fly ball with one out. Chris Davis flied out, but J.J. Hardy - in a 1-for-18 slump - lined a single into left field. Game over? Not quite. Rajai Davis threw out Machado at the plate, so it's on to the 11th. Will the Orioles need to make a roster move later today? They might need another reliever. Update III: Johnson retired the first two batters in the 11th before loading the bases on two singles and a hit batter. He walked No. 9 hitter Maicer Izturis on four pitches - the last one wasn't even close - to give Toronto a 6-5 lead. Brian Matusz has replaced Johnson, who allowed his first earned run of the season. Update IV: The Orioles went down in order in the bottom of the 11th, with center fielder Emilio Bonifacio making a diving catch to rob Flaherty, and the Orioles' streak of regular season extra-inning victories ended at 17 with a 6-5 loss to the Blue Jays. Matusz stranded three more runners. He's stranded all 10 this season and all 24 since moving to the bullpen.
