Orioles recall Vespi and Nevin (plus lineups and notes)

The Orioles announced the reported roster move this afternoon, with reliever Joey Krehbiel going on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation and left-hander Nick Vespi being recalled from Triple-A Norfolk.

But there were others.

Tyler Nevin was recalled from Norfolk and infielder Chris Owings went on the bereavement list. Nevin is starting at third base tonight.

Infielder Jahmai Jones was placed on unconditional release waivers. Jones underwent Tommy John surgery last week.

Adley Rutschman is catching Bruce Zimmermann tonight. Ramón Urías is on the bench.

Grayson Rodriguez was named the International League’s Pitcher of the Month for May.

Rodriguez, who was removed from his last start with a strained right lat, appeared in six games and went 3-1 with a 2.25 ERA and 0.97 WHIP. He struck out 48 batters in 32 innings and opponents batted .177.

High Single-A Aberdeen’s Carlos Tavera was chosen as the South Atlantic League’s Pitcher of the Month after posting a 0.49 ERA and 0.60 WHIP in four starts. He allowed one run and struck out 26 batters in 18 1/3 innings and opponents batted .098.

The Guardians have won three in a row and sit in second place in the American League Central with a 22-24 record.

Third baseman José Ramírez leads the majors with 52 RBIs.
