Orioles sign Perez and Gamboa to minor league deals (updated)

With depth moves included on the offseason docket, the Orioles are returning catcher Audry Perez and pitcher Eddie Gamboa to the organization.

Perez and Gamboa have signed minor league deals, the news coming via the club's Twitter account. The Orioles also announced the signings of infielder Anderson Féliz and outfielder D'Arby Myers that were reported earlier this month.

Perez, 29, has spent the past three years in the organization, appearing in 78 and 84 games with Triple-A Norfolk in 2015 and 2016, but only four last summer. Pushed down a level due to the presence of Chance Sisco and Francisco Peña, he batted .301/.333/.420 in 50 games with Double-A Bowie.

Peña signed a minor league deal with the Cardinals last month. Sisco and Austin Wynns will try to earn a job with the Orioles in spring training.

Gamboa, 33, made his major league debut with the Rays in 2016 and posted a 1.35 ERA in seven relief appearances. He began his professional career with the Orioles in 2008, pitching at rookie-level Bluefield, and left as a minor league free agent in 2015 after going 8-11 with a 4.61 ERA in 26 games (19 starts) with Norfolk.

The Orioles tried to convert Gamboa into a knuckleballer, but he was hesitant to fully commit to the pitch and preferred to mix it with the rest of his repertoire. It was an ongoing battle.

Gamboa spent last summer in the Rangers and Dodgers organizations and went 10-8 with a 5.52 ERA and 1.573 WHIP in 24 games (23 starts).

Féliz, 25, is a switch-hitter who spent the past two seasons in the Pirates system at Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis. He played for the independent Lancaster Barnstormers in 2015 after six years in the Yankees system.

Capable of playing every infield and outfield position, Féliz is a career .245/.323/.367 hitter in the minors. He's never hit more than six home runs.

Myers, 29, was at Twin Lakes Park last spring before the Orioles released him. Spending a second summer in the independent Atlantic League, Myers batted .337/.369/.446 with 21 doubles, three triples, four home runs and 43 RBIs in 96 games with the Bridgeport Bluefish. He also stole 31 bases in 39 attempts.

Myers hasn't played for an affiliate since 2015 at Double-A Arkansas and Triple-A Salt Lake in the Angels' system. The Phillies drafted him in the fourth round in 2006 out of Westchester (Cal.) High School.
