Can the Orioles produce another ninth inning win?

If so, it's going to happen in Detroit, where they begin a four-game series against the Tigers.

Austin Hays is in right field tonight with Ryan McKenna in left. DJ Stewart is batting fourth as the designated hitter.

Trey Mancini is playing first base and Ryan Mountcastle is on the bench.

Domingo Leyba gets another start at second base and Austin Wynns is catching.

McKenna's bases-loaded walk in the ninth inning last night was the club's first walk-off free pass since Seth Smith on April 26, 2017 versus the Rays and the 22nd in team history. Twenty-one different players have done it, with Brady Anderson the only Oriole with two.

McKenna became the first Orioles player since Jace Peterson on May 13, 2018 to enter a game as a pinch-hitter and draw at least two walks.

Mancini is carrying a 10-game hitting streak, the third-longest of his career, that includes three homers in his last four games. He's registered an extra-base hit in a career-high six straight games, tied for the longest active streak in the majors.

Mancini has gone 16-for-41 (.390) in his last 10 games with four doubles, one triple, three home runs, four RBIs, three walks and nine runs scored.

Ramón Urías is starting at shortstop again and batting fifth. He doubled twice last night for his second career game with multiple extra-base hits.

UrÍas' 15 RBIs since his recall on June 27 are the second-most on the club behind Austin Hays' 16 and his 26 hits are tied for second.

More Urías: He's batting .351 (13-for-37) with runners in scoring position and .353 (6-for-17) with RISP and two outs.

Maikel Franco is a career .306/.357/.565 hitter with four home runs and 14 RBIs in 17 career games against the Tigers.

Reliever Paul Fry has faced 162 batters this season without allowing a home run, tied for the fourth-most in the majors. His 43-inning homerless streak dating to Sept.15, 2020 is the
fifth-longest active streak in the majors.

Fry has allowed only one extra-base hit this season.

Left-hander Alexander Wells is making his second major league start and fourth appearance. He allowed three runs and struck out seven batters in 5 2/3 innings against the Rays.

Wells stays on the road, still waiting to make his first appearance at Camden Yards.

The Orioles have hit at least two home runs in six straight games, their longest stretch since 10 in a row from July 17-27, 2019.

The club has committed 33 errors in 52 road games for a .981 fielding percentage, compared to just 14 errors in 48 home games for a .992 fielding percentage.

Dan Straily, Aaron Brooks, and Asher Wojciechowski were the three Orioles pitchers who earned wins against the Tigers in 2019. The teams didn't meet last season due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

Tigers right-hander Casey Mize, the first-overall draft pick in 2018 out of Auburn University, is 5-5 with a 3.63 ERA and 1.125 WHIP in 19 starts this season. He posted a 1.74 ERA and 0.871 WHIP in five starts in May but has allowed eight runs in 15 2/3 innings in July.

Right-handers are hitting .214/.282/.303 against Mize and left-handers are hitting .254/.320/.503.

The Tigers will attempt to sweep the Orioles in a four-game series in Detroit for the first time since 1958. The Orioles haven't done it since 1989.

The rebuild in Detroit is becoming less painful, with the Tigers 49-55 and in third place in the American League Central. They've gone 28-22 at home.

Shortstop Richie Martin has moved up from the Rookie-level Florida Complex League to Double-A Bowie on his injury rehab assignment. Martin played one game with the orange team and went 0-for-1 with a walk, two runs scored and two stolen bases.

Catcher Ramon Rodriguez moves from Single-A Aberdeen to Bowie. Catcher Chris Hudgins goes from Bowie to Triple-A Norfolk with the Tides' Nick Ciuffo on the 60-day injured list.
