Orioles option Kevin Gausman

The Orioles optioned right-hander Kevin Gausman to Triple-A Norfolk following tonight's 8-3 loss to the Twins at Target Field. A corresponding move wasn't announced.

Gausman was charged with seven earned runs (eight total) in 3 2/3 innings, the shortest start of his major league career. He also threw two wild pitches and hit a batter.

As I wrote this morning, the Orioles can begin Gausman's 10-day clock sooner by making the move tonight. He can make one start for Triple-A Norfolk, perhaps on Sunday, and return to the Orioles on July 18.

In 11 games this season, Gausman has gone 1-1 with a 5.00 ERA in 27 innings. Tonight marked his third start.

I've been told that first baseman Christian Walker will be recalled from Norfolk, but I've also heard that the club is bringing up a left-handed pitcher. Someone will be optioned on Thursday when outfielder Nolan Reimold comes off paternity leave.

T.J. McFarland was in Gwinnett tonight, making it unlikely that he's joining the Orioles in Minnesota.

Stay tuned.
