MIAMI - The Orioles have optioned pitcher Tyler Wilson to Triple-A Norfolk, as expected, to make room for reliever Oliver Drake on the 25-man roster.
Drake has been recalled from Norfolk and will be in uniform tonight at Marlins Park. He's been assigned No. 71.
Wilson, 25, made two appearances with the Orioles since being recalled on Monday. He made his debut two nights later and tossed a scoreless inning in relief against the Mariners. He allowed a run last night in one-plus innings and earned his first major league win.
Wilson will return to Norfolk's rotation.
Drake, 28, has gone 0-1 with a 0.96 ERA, four walks and 30 strikeouts in 18 2/3 innings over 16 relief appearances with the Tides this season. He's 32-29 with a 3.45 ERA and 511 strikeouts in 563 2/3 innings over eight minor league seasons.
The Orioles selected Drake in the 43rd round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft out of the Naval Academy.
Drake could become the fifth Oriole to make his major league debut this season, joining Wilson, Jason Garcia, Rey Navarro and Mike Wright. Wright is starting tonight in the second game of the series.
Drake also could become the 995th player to appear in a game for the Orioles since the team moved to Baltimore in 1954.
