Perez moved to Syracuse because "absolutely" deserved call, makes debut

The highest minor league promotion of the week goes to centerfielder Eury Perez, who moved from Double-A Harrisburg to Triple-A Syracuse. In his Syracuse debut Friday night, Perez went 1-for-4 with a fourth-inning RBI single in a 6-5 win over Norfolk. Perez had the groundball single for the run-scoring hit. On defense, Perez misplayed a ball over his head in center field but also made one nice running catch. The 22-year old hit .299 in 82 games for the Senators with two doubles, 26 stolen bases and 30 RBIs. Nationals director of player development Doug Harris said Perez deserved the jump to Triple-A because of his consistency. "He absolutely did," Harris said. "He started the season off hot and had a little bit of an adjustment period. But statistically, he really swung the bat well throughout the course of the year." Harris said the reason Perez got the call to the International League was his myriad of tools and his meticulous approach to each day at the park. "The thing that separated him was his attention to detail in all the other phases of the game, from baserunning to defense to throwing to his daily routine," Harris said. "We are really excited about Eury and are really proud. We think it will put him in a nice position going forward." In Woodbridge, Va., right-hander Alex Meyer made an impressive high Single-A debut in Potomac's 8-3 win over Myrtle Beach. P-Nats play-by-play man Tim Swartz tweeted that Meyer hit 97 mph on the radar gun, going six scoreless innings, allowing three hits, one walk and striking out seven batters.
