Playoffs game blog: Mets and Cards look for 2-0 edge tonight in NLDS

Today is a travel day for the four teams in the American League Division Series, which resumes tomorrow. Texas leads Toronto 2-0 while the Houston-Kansas City series is tied 1-1.

So far there has been a home-field disadvantage in the playoffs, as the home teams are 2-6.

The St. Louis Cardinals host the Chicago Cubs later today in Game 2 of their National League Division Series. St. Louis took the series opener 4-0 Friday as John Lackey gave up just two hits over 7 1/3 innings while Tommy Pham and Stephen Piscotty homered.

Right-hander Kyle Hendricks (8-7, 3.95 ERA) pitches for the Cubs against Cardinal left-hander Jaime Garcia (10-6, 2.43 ERA).

Over his past two starts, Hendricks has pitched 12 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits with two walks and 17 strikeouts. He went 6-4 with a 4.47 ERA on the road and is 4-3 with a 4.44 ERA in 15 starts since the All-Star break.

Garcia is 1-1 with a 1.89 ERA over 19 innings in his last three starts. In 10 starts at home in 2015, he went 5-2 with a 1.70 ERA. Over 68 2/3 innings he gave up an average against of .203 and just two home runs.

The New York Mets beat Los Angeles 3-1 Friday night in the opening game of that series. Jacob deGrom won a pitchers' duel with three-time Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw. deGrom went seven scoreless innings allowing five hits with one walk and 13 strikeouts. Daniel Murphy hit a solo homer off Kershaw in the fourth inning and David Wright produced a two-run single in the seventh off Pedro Baez, scoring two of Kershaw's inherited runners.

Tonight, Los Angeles sends right-hander Zack Greinke (19-3, 1.66 ERA) to the mound against the Mets and right-hander Noah Syndergaard (9-7, 3.24 ERA).

Greinke has allowed two earned runs or less in 26 of his 32 starts this year and his ERA was under 2.00 in all but one month.

Syndergaard, who struck out 166 batters in 150 innings, pitched to an ERA of 2.46 at home this season.On the road, he has gone 2-5 with a 4.23 ERA in 12 starts.
