Post-game Notes: O's crush Cleveland

They kept scoring - It was the Orioles' second biggest night scoring runs this year. They plated 13 in the win over Cleveland, topped only by their 16-6 win over the Angels on August 14th. Six different O's drove in runs and five had multi-hit nights. The Birds went 15 for 36 at bat as a team and scored in five different innings. They were 7 for 14 with runners in scoring position. Felix Pie went 3 for 5 with a double and solo homer and 3 RBI before leaving with leg cramps and some stretching of his hamstring in the 7th. Pie is 8 for 22 with three homers and 6 RBI over his last six games. Over his last 15 games, Pie is batting .415-4-10. In August, Pie is hitting .333 (20 for 60) with four homers and 11 RBI. Good night for him - Matt Wieters had three hits, two doubles and a career-high 4 RBI. His previous best RBI game was two. Over a five-game hitting streak, Wieters is 8 for 20 with 6 RBI. Nick Markakis, who was 0 for 10 the past two games, was 3 for 5 with a three-run homer. He now has 31 RBI since the All-Star break and 88 on the year. Luke Scott tied a career high by scoring three runs. He was 2 for 3 in the game after batting .179 over his last 30 games. The Indians bullpen, which had pitched to an ERA of 3.11 over 17 games, gave up 7ER over 3 1/3 tonight. Cleveland, now 22-17 in the second half and 15-16 vs. AL East teams, went 2 for 14 with runners in scoring position and left 13 on base. Berken gets the W - Winning pitcher Jason Berken is now 4-11, 6.33. He gave up five hits and two runs over five innings. He pitched out of bases-loaded jams in the 3rd and 5th innings and threw 97 pitches. His ERA is 3.37 over his last two starts and he has allowed 2ER or less in eight of his 18 starts. He has thrown over 100 pitches just three times. Mark Hendrickson pitched two shutout innings and has given up just one earned run over his last 10 1/3 innings. On the Farm - Bowie was rained out tonight at Reading and will play a doubleheader there at 6:35 p.m. on Saturday. The Baysox trail Reading by three games for second-place and a playoff spot. Frederick's Rick Zagone pitched seven innings allowing just two runs Friday vs. Myrtle Beach. He struck out ten without a walk. Lefty Nick Haughian pitched seven shutout innings of three-hit ball for Aberdeen at Vermont. Haughian is 6-3, 2.05 on the season.
