Post-game notes: O's drop series vs. New York

Wins and losses: With the 4-0 loss Thursday night, the O's lost the series, two games to one to New York and are 0-7 in series on the year. The Orioles are now 4-18 on the season and are just 1-8 at home. They are 3-12 in games vs. the AL East and 0-10 in games where their opponent scores the first run. No beef, runs or extra-base hits: The Orioles had just three singles and went 3 for 30 at bat in the game as the team average dropped from .247 to .241. The O's were blanked for the second time on the year. They were shutout also on April 10 vs. Toronto. Baltimore was held without an extra-base hit for the second time. That also happened April 21 at Seattle. The O's were 0 for 3 with runners in scoring position. In their four wins they are batting .354 (17 for 48) with RISP. In their 18 losses, they are batting .133 (17 for 128). The Orioles are 4-3 when scoring four or more runs, but are 0-15 when scoring less than four. But can he hit?: Brian Matusz took the loss, allowing three runs and nine hits over six innings. He falls to 2-1, 4.40 on the season. He is now 2-2, 4.36 in five career Camden Yards starts. Before tonight, he had won his last six decisions over his last nine starts. His last previous loss was last August 15 vs. the Angels in his third Major League start. In two career starts vs. NY, he has allowed 16 hits and four runs over 13 innings. Matusz has recorded three consecutive quality starts and the O's have 11 on the year. Burnett allowed just three hits over eight innings and is 3-0, 2.43. It's his first-ever 3-0 start and he is 10-2 in his career vs. Baltimore. He threw 116 pitches. Tonight's attendance was 26,439 and the three-game series drew 64,223. Some didn't hit much: In this series, Rhyne Hughes went 1 for 7, Adam Jones 2 for 13, Nick Markakis 3 for 13, Luke Scott 1 for 7, Miguel Tejada 2 for 11 and Matt Wieters was 0 for 9. Cesar Izturis was 1 for 3 on the night and is 7 for 13 over his last four games. Ty Wigginton had a hit in three at bats and is 9 for 21 during a six-game batting streak. With this win, NY completed a nine-game road trip going 5-4. The Yankees are 14-7 on the year and 9-6 on the road. Not Brooks or Frank, but still good: Robinson Cano had a brilliant series at the expense of O's pitching. Tonight he was 3 for 4 with solo homers off Brian Matusz and Alberto Castillo. Cano, who began tonight leading the Majors in hitting at .390, is now batting .407. He went 8 for 13 with 3 homers and 3 RBI in the series and now has 16 hits in his last 24 at bats. Tonight he came up with his 11th multi-hit game of 2010. Cano has 17 homers in his career vs. the O's, his most vs. any opponent. This was his 6th career multi-homer game. Friday at 7:05 at the Yard, the O's begin a three-game series vs. Boston. David Hernandez (0-3, 4.84) faces John Lackey (2-1, 5.09). Hernandez is 1-2, 5.40 in five career starts vs. Boston. In his career at Camden Yards, he is 2-5, 5.03. Lackey gave up three runs and 10 hits over seven innings in a win over the Orioles last Saturday at Fenway Park. He is 9-3, 3.21 in 13 career starts vs. the Orioles. The Orioles are 1-2 this year vs. Boston and went 2-16 vs. the Sox in 2009.
