Post-game Notes: O's swept in Toronto

Swept away by the Jays - Toronto posted wins over the O's by scores of 9-2, 6-5 and 7-3 in this series to complete the sweep by a combined score of 22 to 10. It's Toronto's second sweep of the O's this year. They took three straight at home from May 1-3. The O's fall to 16-33 in series finales. They are now 4-18 in a finale vs. an AL East team and 1-10 vs. the East on the road in such games. Toronto takes the season series lead 9-6 with these three wins. The Jays went 8-1 at home vs. the O's this year, winning the last five games at Rogers Centre. The O's are just 10-27 at Toronto since 2006. Magnificent Matt - Matt Wieters continued his recent torrid hitting as he went 2 for 4 with a solo homer. His average is up to a season-best, .290. The latest on Wieters: Toronto series: 6 for 13, HR, 2 RBI, 2 doubles Six-game hitting streak: 13 for 25 (.520) Last ten games: 18 for 38, .474-3-12 Last 18 games: Batting .388 (26 for 67) As the number three hitter: 12 for 22 (.545) Losing pitcher Jeremy Guthrie falls to 10-16, 5.10. He gave up seven runs (five earned) over seven innings plus. Over his last three starts, vs. New York, Boston and Toronto, his ERA is 6.38. Guthrie came up three outs short tonight of pitching the O's 3rd complete game of the year. Guthrie had an 8-inning complete game May 3rd at Toronto. Brad Bergesen pitched a five-hitter on 112 pitches in beating Atlanta at home on June 14th. A nice round (tripper) number - Travis Snider's solo homer in the last of the 6th tonight was the 200th homer off O's pitching this year. The O's entered tonight leading the Majors in homers allowed by two over Milwaukee. The O's team record for homers allowed is 226 in 1987. With that homer tonight, the Birds have given up at least one homer in six straight games, giving up 12 total in that span. For the Jays, Adam Lind had an RBI in the win. He has 33 RBI over his last 33 games. Vernon Wells, who was batting .421 over 16 games, went 0 for 3. Micheal Aubrey is 5 for 16 with 3 RBI during a four-game batting streak. Cesar Izturis went 0 for 5, was 1 for 12 in this series and is batting just .202 since August 17th. Nick the stick - Nick Markakis went 1 for 4 tonight. He has three hits in his last 25 at bats and is 5 for 42 (.119) over his last 11 games. Ty Wigginton had a pinch-hit single and is 7 for 17 during a five-game hitting streak. The Orioles are now 6-15 over the last 21 games, 6-14 in September, 24-50 on the road, 20-45 vs. AL East opponents and 60-92 on the year. The O's are off Thursday and this road trip resumes with a three-game series over the weekend at Cleveland.
