Post-game Notes: tough series in NY

This is the second time this season the O's were swept in a three-game series at Yankee Stadium. They lost three straight by a combined 27-9 score from May 19-21. They lost the three games this time by five total runs. The O's have been swept five times on the season in three game series. All five came on the road. They were also swept at Toronto, Oakland and Florida. The O's have lost ten straight games at New York. They are 13-29 at New York since the 2005 season. The O's now trail in the season series, 3-9. Since losing the first two games of the year between these teams, New York is 9-1 vs. the Orioles. Even though he settled down after giving up four runs in the first, Jason Berken took the loss and is now 1-8, 6.55. He has allowed 11ER over 10 1/3 over his last two starts. Berken has recorded just one quality start in 11 outings. He is winless, 0-8, over his last ten starts and the Orioles are just 2-9 when he starts. After scoring 21 runs in Chicago, the O's scored just nine runs in three games at New York. The Birds went 3 for 23 with runners in scoring position in that series. O's at Chicago: 21 runs, 37 hits, .319 ave, 15 extra-base hits O's at NYY: 9 runs on 24 hits, .240 ave, 6 extra-base hits Adam Jones went 4 for 5 with a double and solo homer. It's his first four-hit game of 2009 and third of his career. He had two last season. Jones is 9 for 25 with two homers and 5 RBI on this road trip. Gregg Zaun went 2 for 3 today. He has 16 hits in his last 32 at bats for a .500 average in that stretch. On the other hand, Aubrey Huff went 0 for 5 today and is 8 for 54 (.148) over his last 13 games. Brian Roberts went 0 for 5 ending a seven-game batting streak during which he hit .433. Jones and Nick Markakis hit back-to-back homers in the ninth. The only other back-to-back homers by the O's on the season was on May 13th vs. Tampa when Brian Roberts and Felix Pie did it. Roberts recorded his 20th stolen base in this series. He has now stolen 20 or more seven years in a row, only Carl Crawford and Ichiro have done that among American League players. The O's are 1-5 on the nine-game road trip that continues Friday at Boston. They are 15-32 on the road this year and are just 1-14 in AL East road contests. New York is 44-22 since May 8th, the best record in the Majors since that time and they move 20 games over .500 for the first time on the season. The Yankees have won six in a row, 9 of 12 and are 19-5 over the last 24 games. They are 32-16 at home and 18-17 vs. AL East opponents. The Orioles fall to a season low 12 games under .500 at 41-53.
