SAN DIEGO - Top pitching prospect Hunter Harvey, recovering from sports hernia surgery, allowed two hits and struck out six batters today in three scoreless innings for the Gulf Coast League Orioles.

Harvey threw two scoreless innings with five strikeouts in his previous start with the team. He's nearing an assignment with one of the full-season affiliates.

Parker Bridwell, on Double-A Bowie's disabled list with a broken rib, got the win today with two scoreless innings.

During his pregame media session in the dugout, Orioles manager Buck Showalter quickly made mention of the five minor league catchers in the system who were selected to All-Star teams.

"All five catchers for four teams. Is that cool?" he said.

"That's good. That's exciting. And we might have one here, too. Matt (Wieters) has got a good chance, doesn't he?"

No updates on reliever Darren O'Day, who threw his second bullpen session yesterday and will need a third before pitching in simulated games.

"Nothing new," Showalter said. "Still got a little soreness there. Trying to get that last bit out of there, so still moving slow.

"It's frustrating. That's an injury that's always real slow, the high hamstring. Even when you're sitting on the plane, you can't get anywhere to get comfortable.

"I know Brady (Anderson) was talking to me about it last night. He had it when he first came over to the Orioles. He said it took forever for it to heal completely."

Mychal Givens made his first appearance last night in a week and threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings after allowing eight runs in his previous four outings. I asked Showalter whether he felt that Givens needed a rest or if something else was in play.

"Situations didn't really call for it," Showalter replied. "We faced a lot of left-handed dominant lineups, and also, I was trying to freshen up his arm a little bit. He was pretty fresh last night. He was almost too strong. But I try to keep in mind his experience as a pitcher and not get too far.

"I think he had about 28 appearances. I was hoping to get him freshened up a little bit, but mostly the situation didn't call for it."

Update: The Orioles didn't have a baserunner until Adam Jones drew a leadoff walk in the fourth. He scored on Jonathan Schoop's double, and Manny Machado followed with and RBI single to give the Orioles a 2-0 lead.

Schoop's 11-game hitting streak matches his season high.
