Quick updates on Scott and Duchscherer (and Miclat)

Nothing major here, but Luke Scott and Justin Duchscherer were examined today by team orthopedist Dr. John Wilckens while the rest of the team - with the exception of All-Star catcher Matt Wieters - returned home or went on vacation. Scott underwent an MRA last week that didn't reveal additional damage to his right shoulder. He received another cortisone injection today, along with further reassurances that he could be activated from the disabled list on July 19. Scott could end up having surgery after the season to repair a tear in his labrum, but he's trying to avoid it during the second half. Duchscherer had his left hip checked by Wilckens and will return to the minor league complex in Sarasota. The Orioles have no idea if or when he'll pitch. Each time he appears to be making progress, he experiences another setback. Duchscherer will receive a $400,000 bonus if he's placed on the 25-man roster. The Orioles could use another starter - one of the biggest understatements of the year - but they're more likely to bring in someone from outside the organization. President of baseball operations Andy MacPhail has labeled pitching as the top priority. Alfredo Simon is scheduled to start on Saturday, but he'll fly to the Dominican Republic the following day and attend a hearing on Monday related to the New Years Day shooting that left one man dead and another injured. The Orioles hope that he'll be allowed back into the U.S. by Tuesday. Down on the farm, Double-A Bowie infielder Greg Miclat was named the Eastern League's Player of the Week after he batted .652 (15-for-23) with four RBIs, 11 runs scored and six stolen bases. He has a 10-game hitting streak. Robbie Widlansky belted a pinch-hit, two-run homer in the 11th inning today to give Bowie a 5-3 win over Altoona and complete a four-game sweep. Buck Britton registered his first three-hit game with the Baysox. He also had two RBIs and scored a run. The Baysox swept a four-game series on the road for the first time since July 2007.
