Quintanilla unwilling to surrender spotlight today (more on Chen)

Lew Ford is playing in his first major league game since September 2007, and he's become an instant favorite of fans here who love drawing out the sound of his first name whenever he does anything - hits, runs the bases, catches a fly ball, throws out a runner, comes close to throwing out a runner, towels off his face in the dugout. Wei-Yin Chen set the record today for most strikeouts by a Taiwanese player in the majors with 12, and he received two standing ovations - once when the message appeared on the scoreboard, once as he walked to the bench after being replaced by Darren O'Day. Matt Wieters hit a three-run homer, giving the Orioles a 4-0 lead in the third inning and easing some of the strain from a 1-for-31 slump that included 15 strikeouts. Omar Quintanilla wants some of the attention, too, and he's been pretty hard to ignore. Quintanilla is a triple short of the cycle with an infield hit in the third inning, a double in the fourth and his first Orioles home run in the sixth that increased the lead to 6-1. He also committed an error at second base that left Chen with an unearned run. Quintanilla, who's supposed to earn his keep with his glove, is 11-for-25 with the Orioles. He seemed vulnerable with Brian Roberts and Robert Andino expected to come off the disabled list this week, but Roberts will undergo season-ending surgery on his hip. I'll ask again: Does Quintanilla step aside when Andino is activated? Will Rule 5 pick Ryan Flaherty be impacted? Will it be Ford? What about Endy Chavez? Will the answer become more obvious by Tuesday's trade deadline? Note: Chen becomes the first Orioles pitcher to strike out 10 or more batters in fewer than six innings.
