Rain and player updates from Camden Yards

A light rain continues to fall at Camden Yards and the tarp is on the field while kids learn about the weather on their Field Trip Day.

Nice timing.

Manager Buck Showalter isn't confident that the game will start at 12:35 p.m., but he said the forecast is "a little better."

"I think we'll play at some point," he said, "I don't think we'll play in good conditions necessarily.

"It beats having to play on an off-day in 27 straight games. It doesn't work for either team. But right now they're saying the weather at 12:30 may not be a whole lot different as we go. The question I have to have answered is will it be enough to start and stop the game? Then we'd have to push it back. We wouldn't want to do that unless it's a two-hour window. I don't think the window's going to be completely open all day."

He will report to Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday or Monday and play in two or three games before coming off the disabled list. He's eligible to return on May 27.

Bud Norris is headed to Norfolk today and will make an injury rehab start on Friday.

Showalter said he doesn't see any reason why Everth Cabrera won't come off the disabled list Friday in Miami. Rey Navarro is expected to be optioned to Norfolk to create room on the 25-man roster.

"He's physically ready to play," Showalter said.

Kevin Gausman threw on flat ground again today and will throw batting practice Saturday in Miami. He performed more shoulder exercises today with head athletic trainer Richie Bancells.

"He feels great. He doesn't feel anything. That's encouraging," Showalter said.

The plan still calls for catcher Matt Wieters to join the Orioles in Miami and play his first injury rehab game Tuesday at Double-A Bowie.

"The one thing he's in is he's in really good catching shape," Showalter said. "He's been challenged there leg-wise and everything. He's probably got more at-bats than anybody. It's just where he is with the elbow."
