Rangers win in the last of the ninth

It was another 4-3 game for the Orioles, but they lost this one when Texas scored in the last of the ninth. Michael Young ripped a leadoff double off the glove of shortstop Cesar Izturis to start the ninth and after a walk and flyout, Alberto Castillio replaced Cla Meredith. Castillo walked Josh Hamilton and Dave Trembley called for Jason Berken, the seventh pitcher of the night. With the bases loaded and one out, Nelson Cruz hit a sac fly to center to end the game and break the 3-3 tie. It was probably much too deep for Adam Jones to throw the runner out at the plate and his throw was well up the third-base line anyway.

Izturis drove in all three O's runs, snapping a 4 for 41 slump and Jeremy Guthrie was pulled after giving up just one run and throwing 90 pitches after six innings. The O's have now lost four of their last five, falling to 13-28. Texas, in first in the AL West, improves to 23-18 on the season and 16-7 at home. Luke Scott added two hits for the Orioles and is 15 for 30 over his last eight games and batting .367 in May.
