Orioles outfielder Nolan Reimold has a second epidural injection scheduled for Friday, and he told me earlier this afternoon that he'll probably get it done.
Reimold had his first injection on May 11. He underwent a follow-up exam yesterday from specialist Dr. Lee Riley, which led to Friday's appointment.
Reimold, who hasn't played since April 30 because of a herniated disk in his cervical spine, believes that the shot will only alleviate the pain. He isn't sure that it will eliminate the numbness in his left thumb and forearm, or the soreness in his shoulder. However, he's willing to go through the procedure again.
"We hope this does the trick," manager Buck Showalter said.
There's no way to project when Reimold could begin an injury-rehab assignment or get back into the Orioles' lineup. It depends on whether he responds favorably to the second injection.
Meanwhile, catcher Taylor Teagarden has a 3 p.m. appointment Thursday with back specialist Dr. Andrew Dossett in Dallas. Teagarden has received three epidural injections for his lower-back pain.
Third baseman Mark Reynolds (oblique) took batting practice from a coach today in Sarasota and will be re-evaluated tomorrow.
Outfielder Endy Chavez (intercostal) hit off a tee and soft toss today. He wasn't cleared to take batting practice until tomorrow.
Tsuyoshi Wada reported to the Ed Smith Stadium complex today after undergoing ligament-reconstructive surgery on his left elbow.
Zach Britton threw from 60-90 feet today and again reported that his left shoulder felt good. He'll throw a side session tomorrow and is expected to start Saturday at Double-A Bowie.
