Reimold has sore right shoulder

SARASOTA, Fla. - Today's game ended with Orioles first baseman Steve Pearce throwing out the Pirates' Jordy Mercer at the plate on an infield hit. Orioles 6, Pirates 5. The news on Nolan Reimold is fairly encouraging. Reimold was removed from today's game after hitting a home run in the second inning because of a sore right shoulder, according to manager Buck Showalter. Reimold apparently notified Showalter of his condition before stepping to the plate. Showalter doesn't believe that the soreness is related to Reimold's surgery last year. Reimold is trying to regain full strength in his left shoulder, not the right one. "His arm's a little sore from throwing," Showalter said. "Today was the first day that he told us that it was a little sore. He didn't feel comfortable throwing and didn't want to continue throwing, especially in the cold weather. He told us that before he hit the home run, so it didn't bother him to swing. Obviously, it didn't. "Nolan's been having some good BPs, so it doesn't come as a surprise. It probably made coming out of the game a little better." One of Reimold's teammates kidded him about being a full-time DH anyway, so he shouldn't worry about it. Tough crowd. "It only bothers him when he throws and he said he'd rather not take any chances with it, but we'll see what tomorrow brings," Showalter said. "He said it feels fine (to hit). Just throwing between innings, it was kind of barking. No reason to stay out there. "With all he's had, you certainly take precautions with it. But I don't think it's (surgery) related. We'll see. You're dealing with a lot of different nerves and stuff. We'll see what the next couple of days bring." Brian Roberts had three hits, including a home run. "He's swinging the bat good since spring started," Showalter said. "You can tell that Brian enjoys being back in the flow, but he also knows it's very early. We're four-plus weeks from starting the season. Still a long way. But he's moving very well."
