Reimold will be re-examined Monday (O's down 4-1)

Xavier Avery received a nice ovation when he came to the plate in the bottom of the first inning in his first major league at-bat. Avery hit a hard one-hopper to second baseman Will Rhymes. Jake Arrieta struck out three batters in the first, but also issued a walk and gave up a single. The Rays scored three runs off him in the second on three hits - including Ben Zobrist's two-run double - and a walk. He's already thrown 42 pitches in two innings. Nolan Reimold told me this morning that he's still experiencing a tingling sensation in the fingers on his left hand and in his left forearm. He received an epidural injection in his spine on Friday and will be re-evaluated Monday - the day that the Orioles originally planned to send him on an injury-rehab assignment in the minors. Reimold won't come off the disabled list when eligible on Wednesday. "My fingers are still numb," he said. "It kind of moves around a little bit, I guess. The thumb and the forearm are still the same. "I didn't really know what to expect. I knew it wasn't good, but I didn't really think about how long I'd be out. There's always a chance I take the dose pack and I'd be cured. They said it's happened before. We'll see what happens tomorrow because tomorrow's the third day (since the shot) and I was told three to five days to get the maximum benefits from it." Reimold, diagnosed with a herniated disk in his cervical spine, could need another epidural shot if this one doesn't solve the problem. Backup catcher Taylor Teagarden had three injections because of lower back discomfort. Until he's regained all the feeling in his fingers and forearm, Reimold has no idea when he'll head to Sarasota or begin a minor league rehab assignment. "It depends on when it gets better, which shot works," he said. "The rehab could begin tomorrow if I'm better. I'll talk it over with the doc, and if I'm better, I'll head down to Sarasota the next day. I don't know exactly what the plans are, but as soon as it's better, I'll go and start rehabbing. "The doc said he wants me to ease back into activities because he thinks if I go too quick, it could relapse and that would be the worst thing at this point in time." Meanwhile, the Orioles will continue their evaluation of infielder Miguel Tejada at extended spring training until later this week. The reports on Tejada are pretty good. He's swinging the bat better the last few days, though he's still rusty. Update: Jake Arrieta had allowed four runs and six hits, walked two and struck out four, over his first three innings. He's thrown 58 pitches, 36 for strikes. In his last start, Arrieta gave up six runs and nine hits - including three home runs - in 6 1/3 innings in a 10-3 loss to the Rangers. That's 10 runs and 15 hits in 9 1/3 innings since he shut out the Yankees on five hits over eight innings on May 2. The Orioles scored in the second on Matt Wieters' leadoff double and Chris Davis' one-out single.
