High Single-A Potomac Nationals third baseman Anthony Rendon has been recovering from a fractured left ankle at his home in Texas. There had been some hope that Rendon would be able to return some time before the end of the season, but Rendon told Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle that his season is likely done.
"I'm probably not going to come back this year," Rendon told the Houston Chronicle while attending Rice University baseball practice in Houston.
Rendon also said, "It wouldn't make any sense to come back and play the last month and try and do something big."
Rendon injured his ankle rounding third base at a game in Lynchburg, Va., in early April, finishing 2-for-4 in just two games.
When told of the Houston Chronicle report, a Nationals spokesperson said that Rendon has had no setbacks and is on schedule for a late July or August return. Nothing has changed in the status of Rendon's ankle, and he is continuing his rehab from the injury. The team expects Rendon back before the end of the season.
