Revere plays second straight game, goes five innings for Syracuse (updated)

Ben Revere completed his second rehab game with the Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs Friday night. The center fielder, rehabbing a right strained oblique, went 0-for-2 with a walk.

Syracuse stunned Pawtucket with a 3-2 walk-off victory. The Chiefs have won five of their last six games.

Caleb Ramsey replaced Revere on defense to begin the top of the sixth. Revere has now played a pair of games in a row, playing five innings in each.

Revere-at-bat-spring-sidebar.jpgManager Dusty Baker had pointed to the Chicago Cubs series as the games Revere might be able to be activated.

Baker said they would likely ramp up Revere from five innings of work to seven and then nine frames before he comes back.

The Chiefs are back in play Saturday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. Austin Voth is slated to take the ball for Syracuse opposite Roenis Elias of Pawtucket.

Revere could play seven innings today and will also be interesting if he plays on a quick turnaround. I would expect that is what they will do because Syracuse is expecting inclement weather for Sunday. They already have postponed a scheduled appearance by former pitcher Mike Timlin for that date, but the game is still on as of now for Sunday.

If the weather is too sloppy they may not want to subject Revere to those conditions, so a Saturday game for him seems like the best scenario.

The Chiefs then begin a series Monday against Rochester, which runs through Wednesday. The Nationals lay in Kansas City from Monday to Wednesday and then head to Chicago Thursday.

Revere could play games through Tuesday with the Chiefs, have a day off Wednesday and then be ready to be activated for Thursday's game at Wrigley Field.

Baker cautioned, however, that rehab schedules never go as planned, so this is still a day-to-day scenario.

Update: Revere is getting the day off. He is not in the Syracuse lineup.
