NEW YORK - The Orioles activated outfielder Joey Rickard from the 10-day disabled list today and he's leading off and playing left field tonight in the Bronx.
A spot on the 25-man roster opened Wednesday night when the Orioles optioned left-hander Paul Fry to Triple-A Norfolk. They've gone back to a five-man bench.
Rickard was 0-for-6 before spraining the middle finger on his left hand on April 8.
Trey Mancini is in right field and Mark Trumbo is the designated hitter.
Chris Tillman has joined the Orioles in New York following last night's start in Potomac, his third on a rehab assignment. The club must decide whether Tillman is ready to come off the disabled list and start Tuesday night in Boston.
Left-hander CC Sabathia is making his 40th career start against the Orioles. He's 19-10 with a 3.30 ERA in 264 1/3 innings.
The Yankees are 8-1 at home. Their pitching staff leads the majors with a 2.90 ERA. The Orioles are third at 3.41.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Wednesday night marked the 15th time since 1974 that the Orioles posted a walk-off win with a walk. The last time it happened was June 26, 2007 with Ramon Hernandez in the ninth inning against the Yankees.
For Seth Smith, the walk was the 400th of his career.
