Roberts continues to swing a hot bat (Davis homers, O's win 7-2)

Orioles manager Buck Showalter is getting a reminder of how Brian Roberts can impact a game when healthy. Roberts has two more hits today, and his two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning increased the Orioles' lead to 5-2. Roberts is 11-for-23 with seven RBIs in his last seven games. Is that good? His average is now up to .275. This is the first time that Roberts had strung together back-to-back multi-RBI games since April 1-2, 2011. The first two games of the season. Yeah, a fairly long time ago. Roberts lined his two-run single up the middle off Rockies left-hander Josh Outman after Chris Davis and Adam Jones started the inning with singles and Nick Markakis flied to center. Davis took third on the fly ball, Jones stole second and Roberts brought them home against a draw-in infield. Davis and Jones each have three hits today. Jones is a triple short of the cycle. Alexi Casilla has singled twice for his first multi-hit game since July 6 in New York. Darren O'Day is on the mound in the top of the eighth inning. So, who's closing if it's save situation? Update: The answer is Jim Johnson. He's warming in the bullpen as we go to the bottom of the eighth with the Orioles leading 5-2. O'Day stranded two runners in the top of the eighth. Josh Stinson began to warm with one out, but O'Day escaped trouble. Update II: So much for a save situation. Chris Davis collected his fourth hit today, and his 45th home run of the season. His two-run shot off Edgmer Escalona in the eighth inning increased the Orioles' lead to 7-2. Johnson sat down, and Josh Stinson has entered the game in the ninth. Davis absolutely crushed the ball to center field after Manny Machado singled. His 45 homers put him one behind Jim Gentile on the Orioles' all-time single-season list. Frank Robinson hit 49 and Brady Anderson hit 50. Update III: The Orioles defeated the Rockies 7-2 to win the series and improve to 67-56 on the season. The Orioles are 12-6 in finales of a three-game series that determines the winner. Stinson gave up a hit and walked a batter, but the Rockies didn't score. Today's attendance: 22,238
