Roster move and Willis retirement official, and other notes

The Orioles confirmed today that pitcher Steve Johnson has been recalled from Triple-A Norfolk and joined the team in Seattle. He's wearing No. 52. Johnson and his father, Dave, will become the sixth father-son duo to play for the Orioles, joining Bob and Terry Kennedy, Don and Damon Buford, John O'Donoghue Sr. and John O'Donoghue Jr., Dave and Derrick May, and Tim Raines Sr. and Tim Raines Jr. Including today, the Orioles have made 10 moves on the 25-man roster involving nine players in the last six days. Is that a lot? Dontrelle Willis has officially retired at age 30, according to a tweet from the Orioles. The Orioles still need one more win to guarantee themselves a winning record at the All-Star break for the second time since 1998. They were 47-40 at the break in 2005. The Orioles have won just three of 13 season series at Safeco Field, going 2-1 in 2004, 4-3 in 2005 and 4-2 in 2008. Wilson Betemit has hit safely in 11 straight games since June 18, including multi-hit performances in five of his last seven games. He's batting .472 (17-for 36) over the span, raising his average from .238 to .274. The five consecutive multi-hit games from June 24-29 are a career high for Betemit. The Orioles are 1-7 on Mondays (0-4 at home, 1-3 on the road). The Orioles have collected 92 hits in their last 15 games, fewest in the majors. They're batting .197/.265/.298 in that span. Their .197 average since June 15 is tied with the Dodgers for lowest in the majors. The Orioles are 13-for-89 (.146) with runners in scoring position over the last 15 games. Over their last six games, the Orioles' pitching staff has allowed 49 earned runs, 88 hits and 13 home runs. Triple-A Norfolk reliever Pat Neshek was named the International League Pitcher of the Week after recording saves in all three appearances, tossing 4 2/3 perfect innings and striking out eight.
