Whatever momentum O's starter Scott Feldman had going in recent starts sure didn't last long tonight.
Feldman gave up eight runs and eight hits over just 2 1/3 innings as Boston beat the Orioles 12-3 in the first game of the last series of the year in front of 30,774 at Camden Yards.
Chris Davis hit a solo homer in the sixth, his 53rd of the year. Davis is the first player in the the majors with 53 homers and 138 RBIs since Alex Rodriguez in 2007. Davis also moved past Frank Robinson with 28 homers in Baltimore this year, a new O's home game record. Robinson had hit 27 in 1966 at Memorial Stadium.
Adam Jones hit a two-run homer in the third and his blast to center was his 33rd homer. That is a new career high for Jones, who hit 32 last year. He now has 108 RBIs.
Winning pitcher Clay Buchholz, who is now 12-1 with an ERA of 1.74, had given up just two homers all year over 101 1/3 innings and he matched that tonight during his seven-inning outing.
With one out in the opening inning, Feldman gave up a single, single, double and three-run homer to Daniel Nava as Boston led 4-0 just five batters into the game. By the end of the inning, Boston led 5-0 and had hit for the cycle. He was knocked from the game during a three-run third, which produced an 8-0 lead.
Feldman came into this outing with a 3-2 record and 2.08 ERA over his previous eight starts. He is now 5-6 and his ERA for the Orioles jumped from 3.57 to 4.27. After giving up nine earned runs over his last six starts combined, he allows a season-high eight in this game.
O's lefty Mike Belfiore entered with two men on in the eighth for his major league debut, and David Ortiz greeted him with a three-run homer for an 11-3 lead. Jonny Gomes hit a solo homer off him in the ninth.
The Orioles are now 83-77 with two games remaining. They are 18-25 over their last 43 games, 9-8 against Boston, 44-35 at home and 12-14 this month.
On Saturday night, Wei-Yin Chen (7-7, 4.03 ERA) pitches against Jon Lester (15-8, 3.67 ERA) at 7:05 p.m.
