Second dose of Duquette

This is the story that doesn't end, it just goes on and on my friends... I didn't make it out of York, Pa., without the Twitter world being jolted again by reports that the Orioles are close to settling on compensation from the Blue Jays that would allow executive vice president Dan Duquette to take the job as president and CEO in Toronto. A source close to the situation said "nothing is imminent" and there won't be a resolution before next week. The source added that Duquette's status may not change, "but when a team keeps pushing, something can happen." The Blue Jays keep pushing hard to get Duquette, who has four years remaining on his contract. Managing partner Peter G. Angelos had a lengthy meeting yesterday with manager Buck Showalter, and while Duquette's situation wasn't the primary topic, it occupied a large chunk of time. Specific names have been discussed as compensation, which qualifies as an advancement in the story, and ESPN's Buster Olney mentioned right-hander Jeff Hoffman, 22, the ninth pick in last year's First-Year Player Draft. The Blue Jays can't trade Hoffman now, per MLB rules, because a full year hasn't passed since he was drafted. However, he could be a player to be named later. I tweeted earlier today that I've heard the Orioles are pushing for a higher level of compensation in exchange for not filing tampering charges against the Blue Jays. Taking such action has been discussed within the organization, according to sources. Getting a significant return in compensation for this type of transaction isn't the norm. Keep in mind that the Red Sox received pitcher Chris Carpenter from the Cubs in 2012 in exchange for general manager Theo Epstein. Not a big haul, to say the least. In another interesting twist, Duquette and Showalter are in Boston tonight to attend the chapter's BBWAA dinner. Duquette is being honored as Executive of the Year and Showalter is being honored as Manager of the Year. You can be certain that the Boston media will ask Duquette about the Toronto rumors. He's declined comment to a few of the locals. Duquette and Showalter will be in New York on Saturday for that chapter's BBWAA dinner. It's now become a traveling show. A resolution may be coming. I can't place odds on Duquette taking the Toronto job, but they definitely have increased in recent days.
