Luke Scott's second game with Double-A Bowie has been put on hold. The Baysox's game in Harrisburg has been delayed by rain, but they should be getting started shortly. Scott is batting third and serving as the designated hitter, just as he did last night when he walked twice and homered. We'll find out tomorrow whether the Orioles activate him from the disabled. list. If so, he can serve as the designated hitter while Vladimir Guerrero is on the DL. Pitcher Alfredo Simon is heading back to Baltimore tonight after attending a hearing today in the Dominican Republic. He's expected to be removed from the restricted list tomorrow. Derrek Lee's two-run triple in the bottom of the first inning gave the Orioles a 2-0 lead. It was Lee's first three-bagger of the season. Too bad it didn't stand up the way Lee did. Brad Bergesen gave up three runs in the top of the third. By the way, did you notice how Red Sox center fielder Josh Reddick tracked Lee's fly ball. He might want to take off the roller skates. In fairness to Reddick, the ball is really carrying tonight. That happens sometimes in 150-degree weather. Matt Wieters singled in the first inning while batting right-handed against knuckleballer Tim Wakefield. The more I watch J.J. Hardy play shortstop, the more foolish I feel for writing all winter that Jason Bartlett was the better defensive shortstop. Brandon Snyder is starting at third base tonight for Triple-A Norfolk, with Josh Bell having been recalled by the Orioles. Catcher John Hester was charged with his seventh passed ball. Instant update: The Red Sox scored twice in the fourth to increase their lead to 5-2. Both runs were unearned after Derrek Lee's error. And Reddick homered in the fifth. Red Sox 6, Orioles 2. No quality start from the rotation tonight. Continue to breathe normally. Update II: Hardy just hit his 14th home run, a two-run shot, to reduce Boston's lead to 6-4 in the fifth. He's also made a couple of outstanding plays in the field. Worth every penny. Update III: Adam Jones also homered in the fifth. Red Sox 6, Orioles 5. And Wieters singled again while batting right-handed. Maybe Wakefield should just put the ball on a tee and take his chances. Update IV: I believe this is my personal best in updates. Nolan Reimold's two-run double in the fifth gave the Orioles a 7-6 lead and knocked Wakefield out of the game. Troy Patton has entered the game in the top of the sixth.
