I'm glad you asked.
With Gary Allenson joining the Orioles as interim third base coach, Bobby Dickerson will move into the Tides' dugout and run the show for a while.
Dickerson has been serving as the Orioles' minor league infield coordinator and Latin America field coordinator. He's posted a 525-462 record as a minor league manager, most recently going 72-72 at Triple-A Iowa in 2009.
Dickerson was a coach and manager in the Orioles' system from 1993 to 1997.
Will my next entry be titled, "So who replaces Dickerson?"
I don't think so.
I want to pass along that the Orioles will hold their 24th annual Food Drive at Camden Yards this weekend, beginning with tonight's game against the Red Sox. Non-perishable food items and monetary donations from fans will be collected from the time gates open until the middle of the second inning during the next three games.
More than 4,000 pounds of food and $30,000 in cash donations were collected at last year's drive.
A Virtual Food Drive has also been added to this year's collection effort. Participants can sign up at www.mdfoodbank.org/orioles. The Virtual Drive will be open until Monday, June 14. Food purchased through the Virtual Food Drive is at wholesale cost, allowing the Maryland Food Bank to obtain more food for every dollar donated.
Items most needed at this time are peanut butter, canned chicken, canned tuna, oatmeal, breakfast cereals and canned fruits and vegetables. Both drives benefit soup kitchens, food pantries and emergency shelters throughout Maryland.
For more information, call 888-848-BIRD or visit www.orioles.com.
One more item: The Double-A Bowie Baysox and the Orioles Advocates will collect new and used sports equipment Sunday at Prince George's Stadium as the Baysox take on the Erie SeaWolves at 2:05 p.m. The organization collects the equipment for its Cardboard To Leather program, which provides equipment to underprivileged children in developing countries.
