Some notes and quotes from the O's loss to the Mets

Some notes from the Mets 5-1 win over the Orioles on Friday night and some post-game quotes from Jeremy Guthrie and Brad Bergesen. Guthrie on the Chris Carter three-run homer in the fourth: "I wouldn't say it was a bad pitch, it was a wrong pitch. He did a good job on it. Chris is a former teammate of mine, we played at Stanford together. He did a nice job, drove that pitch and hit a homer, it was a big difference. "I felt very comfortable out there. Had decent command of the fastball. The off speed stuff was a little bit more down in the zone this game compared to the previous two. You tip your cap to their pitcher, Dickey, he had our batters off balance all night. Guthrie trying to stay positive despite a 3-7 record: "I think I've done a number of things better (than last year). All the things that seemed like we talked about every start last year, that were giving me problems, we haven't really spoken about those. That's a real positive for me, but ultimately we need to win games. "I think in my seven losses we've scored 12 runs in those. It's going to take an exceptional effort on my part and that's my responsibility. I hope to go out there and limit the other team to zero runs or one run." Bergesen on pitching in relief: "It's been a while, I think ten days since I was last in the game. I was a little bit rusty, had the adrenaline kicking pretty good tonight. Hopefully I can get back in a rhythm and get sharp again." Bergesen said he can take something from this outing: "I think the positive tonight was just getting out there, getting my feet wet. Learning how to get loose in the bullpen and get in the game. Coming out of the bullpen you don't really have time to think about it." Other notes from the game: *David Wright went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI. He is now batting .462 over his last 11 games. *After batting .303 with runners in scoring position in the Yankees series, the O's went 3 for 17 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base. The three hits they had with RISP did not drive in any runs. *Winning pitcher R.A Dickey recorded a career-high eight strikeouts. He has made quality starts in four of five outings this year. Losing pitcher Jeremy Guthrie suffered his third consecutive loss and gave up four runs over seven innings, throwing 111 pitches. Brad Bergesen allowed a run over two innings in his first career big league relief appearance. *The O's have just two homers in seven games on this homestand. They have scored just 28 runs the last 13 games and have been held to zero or one run in seven of the last 15 games. *The Mets improve to 9-18 on the road and have won six of their last seven and are 13-5 since May 21st. The Orioles have lost 15 of their last 18 contests. *Nick Markakis had two hits and is now 8 for 21 during a five-game batting streak. Adam Jones is 7 for 23 during a six-game batting streak. Scott Moore is 7 for 21 with 4 RBI over his last seven games.
