Span sets Nationals record with 58 multi-hit games (Nats win 5-1)

Right-hander Stephen Strasburg is home for his final regular season start prior to the National League Division Series commencing Friday. He went 2-0 on the Nationals' recent road swing. In the bottom of the first, Bryce Harper and Wilson Ramos reached with base hits. Asdrubal Cabrera reached first on a fielder's choice, moving Harper to third. Strasburg brought Harper home with a sacrifice bunt to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead. Update: Denard Span has two singles in the game and 58 multi-hit games for the season, breaking Cristian Guzman's club record of 57 games set in 2008. Span's single in the fifth started a rally for the Nationals. Adam LaRoche brought him home later in the inning with a grounder to the shortstop, giving the Nationals a 2-0 lead. Strasburg has allowed only two hits and no runs, striking out six through five innings. Ryan Zimmerman entered the game for LaRoche, and is playing first base. Update II: Strasburg went six innings, allowing just two hits and no runs, walking one and striking out seven. He threw 83 pitches, 55 for strikes. Update III: Nats relievers took a cue from Strasburg until the ninth, as Jerry Blevins and Tyler Clippard allowed no hits in the seventh and eighth inning, respectively. The Nats added three huge insurance runs in the eighth inning on Cabrera's bases-clearing double. Drew Storen then came in for the ninth and faced some trouble. The Marlins loaded the bases on two singles and a Zimmerman fielding error. Two batters later, Adeiny Hechavarria reached on an Anthony Rendon error to plate Miami's first run of the game. However, Storen then got Jarrod Saltalamacchia to line out to end the game, 5-1. The Nationals now have 95 wins on the season.
